Virginia Mountain Vineyards was established as a vineyard in the spring of 1998 with the planting of two grape varieties
(Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc) totaling 3325 vines. The operation has since grown to include an additional three grape
varieties (Merlot, Traminette, and Petit Verdot) bringing the vine total to 5625 over a 9.5 acre plot. Many thanks are
extended to the family and friends who have helped make the vineyard a success.

Planting the vines
Vines in spring
The harvest starts in September and continues through the middle of October.
Resident piper Roy MacCormack pipes the start of each harvest.
The grapes are picked and placed into lugs before heading to the winery for crushing. Many hands are needed to pick and haul the
grapes so that they reach the winery on time.
Picking the Chardonnay
The grapes are crushed and tanked. Eventually, some of the wines will make their way into oak barrels for the final
aging.
